Testimonial from KCUCS Guatemala 07 Mission Trip:
My first Chiropractic mission trip was a phenomenal success by every measure! I am eternally grateful for the financial support that made the trip possible.
A humble thank you also goes out to the many people who prayed for me during my travels.
The 2007 KCUCS World Mission Team to Guatemala consisted of 22 members from five different states plus Australia. Our group came from several Chiropractic colleges (the four D.C.s were from Palmer, Logan, and Cleveland and the 15 students were from Palmer, Life, and Sherman). Only one of us spoke Spanish, yet we still worked well together and accomplished some incredible things. It was amazing to see God bring together such a diverse group of students, doctors & spouses, and translators to accomplish His work in several
communities in Guatemala.
A huge reason for the wonderful experience must be credited to our local host, Cristobal Chamare, a kind servant, visionary leader, and career missionary with Campus Crusade for Christ. His passion for serving the people of Guatemala is admirable and inspiring, yet his goal of expanding God’s kingdom extends far beyond the reaches of his home country. His evangelistic mission work around the world includes the chaplain positions for the Guatemalan national soccer team, track and field world championships, and the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. Our team would not have been complete without several of Cristobal’s ministry associates, church members, bus drivers, and translators. I urge you to pray for him (and his family) as he seeks to follow God’s leading into new ministries. I am looking forward to seeing him again soon!
Let me share several things from the trip to help you understand our experiences:
--We examined, scanned, and adjusted almost 9,200 people using the knee chest upper cervical specific Chiropractic technique.
--About 1,400 of them came back on following days for a post adjustment scan and check up.
--I was able to personally help approximately 770 people, ranging from babies to senior adults. This was an irreplaceable experience for my professional development.
--We were able to join with two congregations in worship for their Sunday services.
--I was given the privilege of sharing the Good News of Jesus with many people using a variety of methods including my personal testimony, Spanish Gospel tracts, and the Evangecube. It was exciting for me to share the love of Christ via Cristobal’s translation into Spanish.
--I was able to learn & remember some Spanish…but I certainly need to practice before I go back!
--Many seeds of hope and health were planted in Guatemala. It is a great joy to know God uses Chiropractic care to open doors for the local charities and churches, supporting their on-going work with the poorest of the poor.
--A number people were physically healed and many improvements were noted. Some of these "miracles" included: pain relief, restored use of a shoulder and arm from an injury fifty years ago, many headaches gone--even migraines gone, the ability to sleep through the night restored, and an incredible resolution of depression and bipolar disorder for a woman and her son.
Although the KCUCS organization has a Christian focus, its primary
mission is to bring specific upper cervical Chiropractic care to the
nations. They do this by training Chiropractors and students in this
special work and by taking trips to serve underprivileged people around the world. Because the KCUCS is open to any qualified people we had quite an eclectic mix of people on the team including: several born again evangelical Christians, a Muslim, a Mormon, a few Catholics, and a few others with no religious affiliation. This made our daily prayers at the evening meals interesting and also paved the way for many unexpected but enjoyable conversations. One of the great memories I have from the trip is observing the camaraderie develop amongst the group members. Even with the noted differences in our backgrounds we became unified in the task.
I am very thankful for our leader, Dr. Mike Anderson. He did a fabulous job of keeping the team focused on the purpose of our trip. He gave God the glory for the results and prayed daily for power and guidance from the Lord. Dr. Terry Crowder and his wife Lori were also a fantastic part of the team. Their continual faith and exuberance for helping sick and hurting people was encouraging. I learned a great deal from these two men and am confident I can turn to them in the future with any questions.
I have often heard people return home after a mission trip saying, "I went to minister and serve, but I was the one who received the blessing." This was partially true for me, but with a twist that includes a confirmation of my unique ability to minister to the people on my team as well as those in the field. I also have renewed my personal vision for world missions, seeing countless ways to use Chiropractic as an new avenue for reaching people with God’s love.
I plan to go again this year. I'll close this epistle with a quote from an old hymn, "wherever He leads I’ll go."
With love and thanks,

My heart is certainly going with you all on this trip-though the rest of my vital organs most likely will be in AMAZING Davenport, Iowa, where my dreams are coming true. I will be praying for all of you. Say "hi" to these kids for me and tell them i love them: Ricky, Gabriella, and Josue.
Love,
Carolyn
